Local business owner closing shop due to myriad of city-related issues

Local small business owner Anita Dunn is calling it quits. She is the owner of Mila and Paige and Columbia Street and has told her customers that after years of issues related to increased shoplifting, skyrocketing parking rates and break & enters, it’s time to move on.

Dunn appeared on Global TV yesterday and shared her story. Today she appeared on CKNW’s Mike Smyth Show. You can hear her interview by clicking here.

City Councillor and small business owner Paul Minhas also appeared on CKNW today. “It all starts at the the top,” Minhas told Smyth. “If there’s no leadership from the Mayor and Council, small business owners like Anita will ultimately pay the price.”

Minhas reminded Smyth the NWP had brought forward a motion to lower parking rates in the downtown core, but Community First voted 5-2 in opposition.

“We need more small business owners like Anita in our business districts, not less,” says Minhas. “This Mayor and his Community First majority are simply not doing enough to support small businesses in our city.”
